Security & Safety Things chats with Steve Walsh, VP of Sales at Neurala

At Security & Safety Things, we assist developers in creating applications for IoT in the fields of security and operations and in monetizing globally through our digital marketplace, all on the basis of an open and standardized development platform. One example of mutually beneficial cooperation is that one with the startup Neurala, based in Boston.

What is your core business? Give us and the readers a short insight into what you are working on?

Neurala is a pioneer in AI-based visual inspections. Our mission is to make AI more applicable and useful in the real world. Founded in 2006, our research team invented Lifelong-DNN™ technology, which lowers the data requirements for AI model development and enables continuous learning in the cloud and edge computing. Our technology is deployed on more than 53 million devices worldwide used in a wide variety of industries.

What kind of application have you already produced for our marketplace and ecosystem?

Neurala has already developed an application for Security and Safety Things’ IoT platform that allows companies to detect and classify objects using video analysis on surveillance cameras, for example in industrial production. Brain Builder, our SaaS platform, helps to reduce the time, cost and skills required to build and maintain these types of AI applications.

What made Security and Safety Things stand out for you as a product/service?

Security and Safety Things has already convinced many of the largest security camera manufacturers, app developers, and enterprise users worldwide. This demonstrates the potential of their approach on a global level. It's exciting to see the vision for a unified global ecosystem for security camera software applications to become a reality. We are happy to be part of it!

What made you happiest about collaborating with us? OR what has exceeded your expectations since working with us?

The engagement and support we’ve received from every level of the Security and Safety Things team have been tremendous.

From Developer Relations to Marketing and Engineering, we’ve always been provided with the support and advice we needed to deliver our solution for the marketplace. It is obvious that offering the best possible developer experience is key to Security and Safety Things.

What's the main reason you recommend our product or service?

Security and Safety Things is a key partner for Neurala because it broadens the reach of Brain Builder. Through the app marketplace for surveillance cameras, we can present our product and expertise to the people who want to take their security systems to the next level. Companies find innovative solutions and we find our customers, it’s a win-win situation.

How do you rate the market for B2B apps in the area of camera applications?

The amount of visual data generated by an increasing number of cameras used worldwide is growing exponentially. How to use this data efficiently and derive value from it varies from company to company. A marketplace with pre-built applications that offer solutions for many use cases helps everyone to exploit this potential.

Our custom AI is already successfully used in retail, security, parking, and manufacturing. I am sure that other areas will follow.

What are your next goals and what does it take to achieve them?

With emerging technology like AI, usability and education must be front and center. Neurala is dedicated to making vision AI for inspections more useful and accessible. Through new products and working with partners like Security and Safety Things which gives us access to new users and use cases, we will achieve that goal.

Simon, thank you very much for the chat and the opportunity to get to know you better.
